Several factors contribute to urine leakage in men, with each case often having its unique underlying causes. Prostate-related issues, such as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), are common culprits. Overtime obstruction from an enlarged prostate results in thickening of the bladder muscle as well as irreversible collagen growth, these changes can result in bladder overactivity including uncontrolled bladder squeezes resulting in leakage.
The prostate may not always be the culprit. Neurological disorders, urinary tract infections, and lifestyle-related factors like obesity, smoking, or excessive alcohol consumption can play significant roles. Importantly, these changes are not an inevitable part of aging and may have effective treatment options.
